Concept Overview:
Carpe Diem – The Never Ending Journey is a procedurally generated voxel-based 3-dimensional role-playing adventure game where the player assumes the role of an unnamed wanderer. Collecting resources, food, and equipment, the player sets out to explore the vast wilderness scattered with mountains, rivers, caves, tunnels, lost temples, villages, ancient ruins, castles both occupied and destroyed, abandoned mines, and even entire cities. Not only can the player explore the world but interact with it as well by the means of various tools and equipment, molding and reshaping the world. The player can also engage in the world by means of politics and economics becoming the next business tycoon with a vast trade empire or the next leader of the greatest empire/city ever known with vast macro and micro management abilities including dictating various economic and political systems to truly create a world of vision. The essential idea is that the player is exploring and creating something real, living and thriving and throughout the game the player discovers something tangible, knowledge; learning by experience. The core of the game lies in philosophy and the propagation of philosophical thought and knowledge. The player pursues not only new equipment, power, and wealth but actual philosophical books, poems, quotes, riddles, questions, and theories presented in both traditional and innovative manners, while experiencing an indulging, open-ended, interactive world of creation and exploration.
A Word on the Project:
Carpe Diem is Sapientia Studios’ flagship project and the one that will no doubt need the most work and effort of hundreds if not thousands of creators coming together to create something spectacular. This project is very much about creating “the dream game”, the game everyone fantasizes about, where all the genres and content we all love about games come together to create something that has never been done before. This isn’t just a game; it’s a tool that teaches the player real tangible concepts and skills in real time through playing and experiencing a unique and dynamic world.
Progress:
The GDD is still under heavy development with generalized concepts outlined but not entirely fleshed out as multiple members are still hard at work preparing and writing out concepts to include. Every employee will have full access to the GDD in progress as it is updated. Game development at a programming level has still not begun as programmers are still in need and engine and development plans are still to be decided upon acquiring programmers for the project.
